Hi! My name is Larry Ricker.
When my day job and family responsibilities permit, I enjoy Bicycling, Cross Country Skiing, Hiking, Camping, Backpacking and Canoeing. Because of my interest in these activities, I've been involved with the Boy Scouts for a number of years, first as a youth, then as an adult. I also enjoy working on my personal computer. Oh, and I also enjoy taking Photographs.
I've been fortunate in that my job has entailed some travel to places like Florida, Belgium, Germany and the French Riviera. My wife is originally from England so I've spent a few vacation days there as well. And I almost always take a camera along.
A couple of years ago, I became interested in Web Page Design and have created many pages on our internal network at work to share information with my co-workers around the world. It's becoming another hobby of mine although sometimes, after sitting in front of a computer monitor at work all day, it's hard for me to sit still in front of one at home -- especially if it's nice out.
Over the last couple of years, I've learned HTML, cgi programming (with PERL), JavaScript, and some Java. You won't find much of the fancier technologies on these pages though. I feel a lot of times that those technologies just get in the way -- you can spend so much time downloading and executing the "gee-whiz" features that it takes too long to get to the meat of the web page. So, I've opted to keep these pages relatively simple with few distractions. The main items that will take a while to download are the photos. I hope the ones I've selected to show you will make it worth your wait.
And, about the photos: they have been taken with a variety of cameras all the way from Yashica and Contax 35mm SLR's to (shudder) "disposable" 35mm and APS cameras -- I've found the disposables to be convenient for use while canoeing and backpacking. More recently, I've acquired an Olympus point and shoot with zoom. The photos have also been taken with a variety of films, from Kodachrome 25 to Kodacolor MAX 800. I hope I haven't offended too many purists.
Again, I hope you enjoy my photos and come back and visit often. I'll try to make it worth
your while by making frequent additions to the collection.
