During my travels, I've visited several U.S. National Parks and Monuments from Arcadia in Maine to the Everglades in Florida, from the Great Smokey Mountains in North Carolina to Glacier National Park in Montana, and including the grand daddy of all parks, Yellowstone. I have pictures from a lot of the parks that I'll be adding to these pages over time.
During most of my visits to National Parks, I have car camped with the family. My most recent visit however was a backpacking trip in Glacier N.P. in August of 1998 with a group of 3 boys and two leaders (including myself) from Boy Scouts. I'll start out this section by posting pictures from this trip.
For our Glacier adventure, we took the train from Winona, MN to E. Glacier Park, MT. On our first day of backpacking, we hiked from Two Medicine to No Name Lake, taking a side trip to Twin Falls. On our second day, we climbed from No Name Lake up to Dawson Pass, hiked along the flanks of Flinsch Peak and Mt. Morgan, through Cut Bank Pass and Pitamaken Pass and then down to the campground at Old Man Lake.
On the third day, we climbed back up to Pitamaken Pass, then headed north, down into the Cut Bank Valley, and then to the campground at Atlantic Creek. On the fourth day, we headed out over Triple Divide Pass with the intention of camping on Red Eagle Lake and heading out through St. Mary on the fifth day. We got almost to Red Eagle but were met by a Ranger who told us that the trail was being closed due to black bear problems around Red Eagle Lake. So, we had to go back over Triple Divide Pass and stayed overnight at Atlantic Creek again. The next day, we ended our hike at the Cut Bank Ranger Station.
